The Workshop

The workshop

Part1
I started my first exercises in mechanics in a workshop. I had a workbench for my own.
There was a huge vice mounted on the tabletop. We got at first an iron cube. This cube we had to fix between the clamping jaws of the vice. Now we got a file. This tool is designed to
take filings from the surface of the cube. How is it possible?
The material of the file is hardened in a special process. So its surface and there in special

End of Heatwave in Berlin

This Friday since a long time of heat is the first day you can breathe free cold air with 20°C. In the night severe rain has fallen. Our rain- gauge shows 35 liter/qm. This was an amount I cannot remember when it happened for the last time. The gauge is a cylinder with marks on it calibrated for reading with your eyes. You don’t need any batteries.
This moment it starts raining again, the sky is grey but in spite of that we enjoy.
I hope people will recover.

UNESCO Memory of the World (MOW)

On the job of my Metropolis-Blog I discovered that the film is listed on the MOW-Register.
The intention of this register is, that not only prominent buildings and natural sites are worth to be protected. The immaterial heritages of mankind like literature, dance, theatre, music, languages etc. must be preserved against maturity and amnesia too.
Since 1992 there have been registered 193 documents in the MOW-Register.
Here you can find the listed documentary heritage of Germany:
This list is written in German. I could not find an English version of it.

Fritz Lang - Metropolis

The film is listed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. It was shown yesterday simultanously at Friedrichstadtpalast Berlin, Alte Oper Frankfurt, live on a screen at the Brandenburg Gate as well as on TV on ARTE.
This first science fiction film from 1927 is now nearly complete, only 8 minutes are left until now.
I visited a reconstruction at the Berlin Film Festival of 2001.
This year it was shown on the 60th Berlin Film Festival.
A good information about this subject you can get on this link

Kabel Deutschland HDTV

Kabel Deutschland starts with free-TV HDTV

Because of the Winter Olympic Games the 3 broadcaster governed by public law ARD, ZDF and arte decided to start with regular service of HDTV. This was a quick decision with broadcasting over satellite but need hard negotiations with the guys of KD. They wanted a fee for distributing the content over their cable network. They had a strong position because KD is the largest cable operator in Germany.
But now it comes to a favorable conclusion and it works as of now.

Akronym PIIGS

This morning I read the acronym PIIGS for the first time. It represents five countries of southern Europe: Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain.
Here I show you the public debt level in percent of GDP in 2009. GDP is the abbreviation for Gross Domestic Product.

Portugal 77%
Ireland 64%
Italy 115%
Greece 113%
Spain 53%

I don’t know if these figures are correct. But it seems that these countries are in focus of hedge funds. They speculate with Credit Default Swaps (CDS) on falling prices for bonds of these countries.

A flying aircraft carrier

USS Macon and sister USS Akron were two rigid airships in the thirties of the last century designed to carry 5 biplanes for scouting effectively large areas of the ocean.
Both were one of the largest flying objects in the world. The duralumin hull was filled with non-inflammable helium. The German Hindenburg was filled with hydrogen.
Inside of the hull there were mounted 8 German-made Maybach 12 cylinder gasoline-powered engines. That was possible because there was no danger of ignition. The outside propellers could be rotated for a better control during take-off and landing.

Flight technology

Flight technology (Updated Version V2.0)
The first space flight
I am interested in flight-technology and everything that has to do with that subject. Do you know that the first space flight was accomplished in 1942?
It was a V2-rocket that first reached a ceiling of 90 km. This distance above sea level is defined as outer space. The higher you fly the thinner the air will become.

Blood is a special fluid

Blood is a bodily fluid. It delivers among others nutrients and oxygen and transports waste products away. It evenly distributes the warmth formed in the organism.
Blood is circulated around the body by the pumping action of the heart.
The transport system is blood vessels.
Blood is composed of blood cells suspended in blood plasma. The blood cells are mainly red blood cells (also called erythrocytes) and white blood cells.
In follow I concentrate me on the red blood cells.
